About the Event
Romania: On the Edge of Empires – Jennifer Craig
For centuries, the country that is now Romania has served as a buffer zone between major empires and political powers. Constituted as a nation only after World War I, its three regions – Wallachia in the South, Moldavia in the East, and Transylvania north and west of the Carpathian Mountains – once served as the farthest reach of the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires, while also being subjugated as part of the Soviet Union and now supported generously by the European Union. Join Jennifer as she shares with us the breathtaking scenery of the Carpathians, the German-influenced fanciful castles, the unique painted monasteries from Medieval times, and much more that reflect this unusual history and make Romania a fascinating place to visit.
