Unspoiled Bolivia:  Beauty in the High Desert – Jennifer Craig

Unlike its next door neighbor Peru, Bolivia has not been known as a popular tourist destination.  In June 2024, Jennifer travelled with a local guide to the 2.3-mile-high capital of La Paz, then on to the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca, dodging barricades erected in the streets by political opponents of the regime on the way.  After several blissful days visiting ancient ruins on the lake, she then flew south to the Uyumi Salt Flats, made famous by the other-worldly images perfectly reflected in the still waters over the salt beds.  The remainder of the trip was spent driving in a 4x4 over rough, dry roads to admire the many “lagos,” or shallow lakes that provide both gorgeous reflections of surrounding mountains and excellent habitat for the huge flocks of flamingos, seemingly not bothered by the below-freezing temperatures.  From the…
