Polly Cronin and husband Philip visited Syria in September 2010. Much of what they saw there then is not there now. In 2011, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a self-appointed dictator, responded to uprisings with widespread bombings of civilians with chorine gas and ancient World Heritage sites with explosives. Despite UNESCO efforts to restore those sites, most remain lost. The US government website counsels, “Do not travel to Syria, due to terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and armed conflict. No part of Syria is safe from significant risk of death or serious injury.” If you have never been to Syria, this may be your opportunity.

Lincoln Public Library is located at intersection of Bedford and Trapelo Roads.
Parking is available on Library Lane, which runs behind library but is only accessible from Bedford Road; you can also park on nearby roads.

From 128: Take Exit 28B Trapelo Road/Lincoln. Follow Trapelo Road ~2.5mi to its intersection with Lincoln and Bedford Roads (at the flower pot). Library is on your right. Turn right on Bedford Road and right again on Library Lane to park.
From Mass Pike: Take 128 North and follow directions above.
From 93: Take 128 South and follow directions above.
From Route 2 Driving East from Concord, turn right on Bedford Road towards Lincoln Center. (Before turn, there will be “Bedford Road, Lincoln” sign, then Tracey’s Garage. Bear right on Bedford Road after Tracey’s and before intersection stoplight.) Continue south on Bedford Road for ~1mi until you reach Library Lane on your left; turn left onto lane and park. (If you reach intersection of Bedford and Trapelo Roads in front of library, you have driven too far.)
From 495: Take Route 2 East and follow above directions.
From Route 2 Driving West towards Concord, take Bedford Road south to Lincoln Center. There is a stoplight at intersection of Route 2/Bedford Road; Tracey’s Garage will be on your left, just beyond intersection. Lincoln Center is to your left/south on Bedford Road, but left turn at intersection not permissible. Drive through stoplight, continuing on Route 2 just beyond Tracey’s, and turn right at “Bedford Road, Lincoln” sign. When you reach Yield sign, bear right onto Bedford Road, drive through intersection, crossing Route 2, and continue south on Bedford Road ~1mi until you reach Library Lane on your left; turn left onto lane and park. (If you reach intersection of Bedford and Trapelo Roads in front of library, you have driven too far.)
From Route 117: Take Lincoln Road to Lincoln Center. At Lincoln Road’s intersection with Trapelo and Bedford Roads (just beyond Lincoln Town Offices), continue straight on Bedford Road and turn right just beyond Lincoln Public Library onto Library Lane to park.
