About the Event

Come attired in costumes/accessories from your travels (the more exotic the better), if this option appeals to you.

The Human Rainbow: The Evolution of Skin Color

On our many travels, we have all been exposed to the human rainbow -- the incredible diversity of skin colors that we see all across the world. In her presentation, Zarin will explain how the theory of evolution by natural selection can be used to explain this diversity and how variation in human skin color tells the story of how our human ancestors dispersed around the world and faced new and challenging environments. She will also discuss the history of the concept of race from ancient to modern times and will demonstrate how it is very much a social construct and not one rooted in our biology.

Event Coordinators: Ginger Lawrence, Marilyn Brandt, Lee Harrison, and Gaby Whitehouse

Event cost $75/person, plus additional $25 from Hostesses.

RSVP must be received no later than November 28.
