About the Event
Ethiopia: Land of Wolves and Cliff Churches
Moira has visited Ethiopia twice – once in 2011, with a charity that restores murals and bibles in the cliff churches in the North, and once in 2019, with a specialized nature guide. Join her as she guides us through both adventures. The Ethiopian Orthodox cliff churches in Tigray are carved out of solid rock, and some go back to the 7th century. They are still in use today and are often accessible only by climbing up, hand over hand. They are decorated with astonishing painted murals. Her second trip was focussed on the endemic mammals of Ethiopia, particularly the Ethiopian wolf. There are only about 400 wolves left, and more than half of them are found in the Bale Mountains to the southeast of Addis.
