Back to School in Botswana – Deborah Hoover
For two months during the summer of 2025, Deborah and her husband Malcolm volunteered at the Maru-a-Pula Secondary School in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital. They became fully embedded in this exceptional educational community as well as the local expatriate arts network. Highlights included teaching and mentoring Batswana students, interacting with international faculty, and visiting friends in Livingstone, Zambia. They also explored the Central Kalahari Game Reserve on a five-day camping trip, including a visit to the San (Bushman) village of Gukamma, game viewing on the extensive dry pans, the dead silence of the desert, and campfires under the vast Milky Way.
