Ancestral Homelands: Hopi, Navajo, and Puebloan Culture – WTC Trip Members
Last March, nine Travel Club members joined a Road Scholar trip where our excellent guides shared the culture of their Nations. As we drove through the Navajo Reservation and Hopi Mesas in small vans, Milton (Navajo) and Fil (Hopi) made their rich, ancestral traditions come alive: ceremonies, clan structures, art, and politics. We toured pueblos built in canyons over several centuries and then abandoned in the 14th century. The mysteries and beauty of these fabulous places, especially Chaco Canyon, fascinated us as they have anthropologists and archaeologists for years. Challenging walks, comfortable accommodations, generous guides, and the camaraderie of our WTC members made this a wonderful trip.
