A Journey Through the Western Fjord Country of Norway – Lynne Smith and Wendy Slattebo
In May of 2024, Lynne traveled to Norway with husband Ed and three other couples. The discovery of oil and gas in the North Sea more than 60 years ago changed Norway from a shipping, fishing, and farming nation into a modern diverse economy with a growing hospitality industry and one of the world’s healthiest populations. UpNorway, a woman-owned, Oslo-based, sustainability-focused travel company created a private two-week trip that combined train and bus rides through the countryside; hiking, biking, and boating in the magnificent fjords; visits to stave churches; and meetings with local people who had been part of farming and fishing communities before they established small hotels. Following Lynne's presentation, Wendy Slattebo will talk briefly about visiting her Norwegian family as a 16-year-old in 1958 and again in 2024 with her daughter and 16-year-old granddaughter. …
